DSCF1414This healthy apple crumble is the perfect winters dessert without the guilt. I have a bit of a sweet tooth and I love having something sweet after dinner (chocolate is normally my weakness). In winter I especially love eating a warm dessert that is still healthy :-)

Healthy Apple Crumble Recipe:

1/2 cup of oats

1/2 cup of shredded coconut

1/3 cup of pecans

6 thinly sliced apples with skin on

1/2 cup of coconut oil (melt on low heat)

3 tablespoon of natural honey

1 teaspoon of natural vanilla extract

1/3 coconut milk

cinnamon powder

Thinly slice the apples and place them into a baking dish. Pour 1/3 cup of coconut milk onto them and sprinkle cinnamon powder on top. In a mixing bowl add all the dry ingredients in and mix together. Next add in the melted coconut oil, honey and vanilla essence. Mix everything together and then pour it onto the apples and spread evenly.

Cook the crumble on moderate heat for approximately: 40mins or until the crumble is golden brown.

Health Benefits of some of the Ingredients:

Apples – are a good source of soluble fibre to help maintain a healthy digestion. They are also a good source of vitamin A and C. These vitamins are great antioxidants that will leave you glowing from the inside out.

Pecans – these nuts are enriched with oleic acid a monounsaturated fatty acid which can help lower bad cholesterol.  They are also packed full of vitamins and minerals.

Coconut oil – is a plant saturated fat (it’s a good fat). It contains medium-chain triglycerides which can help stimulate metabolism for fat burning…….yay!!!

Honey – a natural sweetener and it’s also anti-microbial. Try and use unprocessed bush honey.

Cinnamon – can help to regulate blood sugar levels which means you are less likely to eat the whole crumble at once ;-)
